We are grateful to have had the opportunity to explore and document an important controversy in the world of baseball history: the origins of hand signals. Signs of the Time gave Crystal Pix the opportunity to develop a complete project from start to finish. What an experience it was to interview many well-known historical baseball figures, reenact scenes from the early days of baseball and delve deep into historical archives!

We were blessed to have won the 2013 regional Emmy Award for Best Documentary. You can read more about the film below.

Where did baseball hand signals come from?

Signs of the Time explores this seemingly simple question  and unveils stories of inspiration that transcend sports. We meet the two men at the heart of the debate. One was a trailblazing umpire whose dedication and ingenuity landed him in the Hall of Fame. The other, a ballplayer who overcame barriers of communication becoming the most celebrated deaf player in the history of major-league baseball. Signs of the Time is sure to delight baseball fans of all ages while exploring our human need to interact with those around us, even in the face of adversity.
